Penumbra is a leading Scottish voluntary organisation working in the field of mental health. We provide an extensive range of services for adults and young people. This highly regarded service provides high quality, guesthouse style accommodation in an attractive, residential area in Aberdeen.
You will be required to work within a budgetary allowance to provide good quality meals for up to 5 guests and to work closely with the support team to provide a recovery focused experience for individuals who use our service. House Keeping duties will include: light cleaning, laundry and responsibility for the stock control of catering and cleaning supplies.
Ideally you will have a SVQ Level 2 qualification in cooking, or be prepared to work towards it. Appropriate experience of cooking and catering is also a requirment, along with the ability to communicate effectively and a commitment to work as part of a team.

Post Summary
To work within budgetary allowance to provide good quality meals appropriate to guests’ dietary needs, and to work with support team to provide a positive experience for guests who use the service. Duties will also include: light cleaning, laundry and responsibility for stock control of catering and cleaning supplies.
Responsibilities:
1. To be responsible for the planning, budgeting, shopping and storage of all food and provisions required for the project.
2. To acknowledge the support needs of guests and show a degree of flexibility in meal times according to these needs.
3. To be responsible for the planning and preparation of two cooked meals per day.
4. To be aware of the principles of healthy eating and to promote those principles within the project.
5. To prepare finger buffets for in-house training courses.
6. To ensure that all areas used for food preparation, consumption and cooking are maintained at high levels of cleanliness in accordance with the food premises (registration) Regulations 1991, and be aware of appropriate Health and Safety regulations.
7. To be responsible for planning, cooking and freezing of meals for use during periods of absence.
8. To be responsible for ordering catering and cleaning supplies.
9. To ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained within the house including: cleaning kitchen, stock rooms and communal areas
10. To be responsible for maintaining linen stocks.
11. To assist staff in preparing bedrooms for arrival of new guests: bed making, dusting polishing and vacuuming.
12. To support guests and ensure they feel safe, accepted and welcome during their respite stay.
13. To maintain relevant documentation
14. To Uphold Penumbra Policies, Procedures and Code of Practice.
Educational Qualifications
Essential: A good level of secondary education and further certified courses in Food Hygiene and cooking skills.
Desirable: Further education to SVQ level 11 in cooking.
Experience
Essential: Evidence of two years minimum experience in a similar post.
