The senior planner is required to mentor the other planners and assist the supervisor in ensuring that all planners are trained in the planning processes and procedures used in the office, thus ensuring a consistent approach to processes, products and customers. He/ She will have a portfolio of projects
ACCOUNTABILITIES
undertake a portfolio of planning duties activities as allocated by supervisor
To act as the planning expert in regard of planning testing and assembly
Provide Training to planners
To resolve issues with planning jobs within the department
Participate planning in key project meetings
To complete allocated complex assembly planning tasks, including
a)Creating, maintaining and managing production orders.
b)Compiling production order packages for issue to the production scheduling group.
c)Rising requisitions for subcontract services.
d)Allocating material to production orders as required.
e)Marking up bills of material with drawing and specification requirements.
f)Preparing the documents to issue material from stock.
g)Monitoring work progress & expediting production labour, material or subcontract services in order to ensure customer deliveries are met.
h)Reviewing production orders for completeness and set to the appropriate status.
i)Provide status reports as required by the customer or internally.
j)Raise request to engineering as required.
k)With the assistance of other groups provide the business groups with quoted hours and costs.
l)Advising additional work scope requirements back to the business group.
m)Examine documents and monitor work processes for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Ensuring that complex work, test and assembly work is planned in details using his experience .that actions are being taken to ensure customer delivery dates are being achieved. Ensuring that all planners are given assistance to work to the same procedures and assisting in the improvement of these procedures.
CHALLENGES
Capacity planning has a large number of variables which generate a complex and time consuming activity. The potential affects of these variables need to be assessed and accounted for in generating a load schedule which will guarantee continuity of work and maintain equipment utilisation whilst protecting the schedule.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Good knowledge of the full range of production control practices. A High level of interpersonal skills. Ability to read mechanical engineering drawings, bills of material and specifications. Technical knowledge of type product. Understanding of using SAP. Test and assembly of product
