Penumbra is a leading Scottish voluntary organisation in the field of mental health. The Fife Early Response Project is funded by Choose Life Fife to support people aged 18+ who have been involved in a recent self harm incident.

A knowledge and understanding of self harm and the current issues affecting people who self harm is essential.

Ideally you will have experience in this field, backed with an appropriate qualification or be willing to work towards one. Equally important is the ability to communicate effectively, a commitment to working as a part of a team and the confidence to provide one to one support to service users.

Job Description

Job Title: Self Harm Development Worker

Responsible To: East/Central Area Manager

Salary: £20, 518 to £24,189 (Point 27 to point 32)

Working Hours: 36.25 hours per week; flexible according to contract terms.

We offer excellent working conditions, 33 days annual leave pro ratincluding public holidays for part-time employees and a contributory pension scheme.

Special Conditions: Hours may include some evenings and weekends

Job Summary
To manage the development of an early response service to people 18+ who have been involved in a recent self harm incident. To link people with existing services and gather information on the needs of this group to inform further planning in this field and to manage and support the local administrator.


Main Aims of Project Co-ordinator Post:

1. To provide an early response service to people 18+ who have been involved in a self-harming incident based on
q Prompt telephone communication
q Within 72 hours- contact with people experiencing recent distress

2. To link people with existing appropriate services

3. To gather information on needs of this group to inform future planning in this field

4. To establish links with appropriate planning groups

5. To report to the Fife Choose Life Group on a regular basis

6. To liaise with other interested groups locally about the needs of this group

7. To continue developing the service

8. To facilitate & provide training around self harm

9. To promote good practice across agencies

10. To make accessible & available resources for organisations & individuals


PERSON SPECIFICATION


JOB TITLE: Self Harm Development Worker

Education/ Qualifications/ Training Essential · Good Level of educational attainment· Knowledge and understanding of Self-Harm and of issues affecting people who Self-HarmDesirable· An appropriate qualification in a relevant field · Understanding of community work and community development.
Experience Essential· Working with people, parents/carers and other professionals· Working across professional boundaries.Desirable · Working within a community development framework.· Liaising with a wide range of agencies
Skills and attributes Essential· Ability to establishing effective networks and working relationships and build networks with a wide variety of agencies.· Recruiting, training & supervising local administrator· Ability to create a sense of safety.· Good presentation skills, both verbal and written.· Ability to manage and support local administrator · Ability to set objectives and evaluate outcomes · Ability to establish effective and meaningful involvement of service users in developing and evaluating a service.
