Targeting Your CV
When you write your CV, you need to do so with an open mind and with a fixed target. The focus of your target should always be not a particular way you write your CV, or the things someone has told you to include, but the actual job you are trying to land.
Sometimes you also need to be creative and flexible to achieve this goal. Keep your target in mind at all times and your CV will be more fit for purpose. To best target your CV you need to get into the mind of the employer.
Getting Into The Mind Of The Employer
The best way to target your CV is to get into the mind of the employer and convince him or her that you are the best person for the job.
CV writing professionals use their experience and professional know-how to target CVs according to employer requirements. However, even without years of experience you can still work out some of the things the employer is looking for simply by looking at the job specs on the Scottish Jobs website.
Job specifications usually include specific skills the employer is looking for. For example if the job specification mentions communication skills, interpersonal skills, technical skills, managerial experience, and particular qualifications then these are areas which you should include on your CV.
CV Direction
CV direction is something which is often overlooked but which is important nevertheless.
The best CV's are targeted and specifically optimized for a particular job, they have a strong direction which is 100 percent committed towards that job.
However, some CVs are very generic and lack direction. In some cases the power and desired effect of the CV is diluted as a result of this, and it is very difficult to see where the candidate's expertise lies.
If you want to impress an employer you need to show him/her that you are the right person for the job. If your CV lacks direction then it is unlikely that you will convince the employer that you will meet the job requirements. In many cases employers are not looking for a 'Jack of all trades', but someone who is quite simply extremely good at doing exactly what they are looking for.
